Crazy Coconut - NEXT BATCH DUE 30/4
As a hairdresser in a past life, your personal soap maker, Jade is always on the lookout for ways to make her hair fabulous. With many more people leaning towards using less plastic, & with a deep desire to know what's in their skincare products; shampoo bars are here to stay. Here's what she said about the new 'Crazy Coconut' Conditioning Shampoo Bar.
This new conditioning shampoo bar is best suited for dry or coloured hair but can be used as a gentle shampoo for any hair. The hemp and coconut milk keep hair shiny and lush and the smell of rosemary & lavender will have you imagining you're bathing naked in a country garden.
Using a shampoo bar takes some getting used to. The first time I washed my hair with soap, I went to work looking like I'd had a fight with a wax pot.
But here are some steps for you to take to avoid my embarrassment.
1. Understand that it will take a little time (3-4 washes for me) for your hair to adjust fully. Not only that, if you've been using commercial brands of liquid shampoo, there will be a build up of residue that is just begging to get out. Did you know that many shampoos & conditioners actually contain silicone to give your hair that smoothness & shine? That chemical load is gonna take some time to get out.
2. Rub the bar liberally all over your wet head. Scrub & rub. Do it again. Hold your hair up in a pony tail & rub the soap over the lower back part of your noggin. Give yourself a head massage while you're there. Smell the sweet smell of the orange & rosemary essential oils.
3. Rinse. Rinse. Rinse really well.
4. Put a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a pre prepared jug in the shower & when you're ready for a final rinse, fill the jug with lukewarm shower water, pour it slowly over your head & let it sit for a bit. This will help wash away any leftover residue, making hair naturally shiny, & acts as a conditioner to close those follicles.
5. Rinse again.
If it seems complicated, know that my 13 year old daughter prefers to only wash her hair this way now so if she can do it, so can you. I'm always amazed at how relatively easy it is to brush my hair afterward & blowdrying is a pleasure. My hair feels like it sits a little heavier so that there's less fly aways but still lots of body.
I'm also reducing the amount of plastic we use, so I feeeeeel good, na na na na na na na, so good, so good...well, you get the point.
Want to know there's no nasties in your soap? Great! So do we.
