The dream of dedicating a soap to the seductive blend of The Morrigan has finally manifested herself. This gorgeous bar of activated charcoal, mango butter & hemp oil features the intoxicating scent of clary sage, geranium & lavender as previously smelt in The Morrigan Intention Blend roll-on & The Morrigan Bath Salts.
This scent has been a life saver for me over the past two years of having hormonal fluctuations & if you're anything like me, taking a moment to catch your breath & inhaling away your frustrations in the shower is not be underestimated.
This soap is an ode to the ancient Irish goddess, The Morrigan, who is often associated with the crow & is a shape shifting goddess of war.
Siobhan over at Autostraddle writes 'The Morrigan stands for war, death, sovereignty and the protection of the community, and spends her free time starting fights and provoking young men into doing stupid things for her amusement' which spoke to my dark sense of humour as being a metaphor for a protector for all women who are challenged with hormonal changes & who are fighting a transitional war of becoming a middle aged goddess in this modern age of patriarchy.
Legend says that when The Morrigan would appear in battles of war, she would either terrify or inspire those who were fighting & could predict the outcome of the victorious. The energy of this Great Queen inspires us (or in fact may terrify us) into peering inwards to look at our true selves. For some of us, having a long hard look at who we truly are, may be a first. I, for one, am a truly different Jade now than I was at 19, 27, or even 35. At 43, I ask myself - who am I now? What changes do I want to make in my life? What forged path of transition & earned wisdom do I want my daughter & the younger generations to know is possible?
As the world around us so desperately tries to see us cling to our youthful selves - whether that be the beauty industry or social media, or partners who long for our faces to stay the same as the faces they first gazed upon, there will come a time when the courage needed to let go of the expectations placed upon us & to slide into a new skin, a new us, will need to show up.
The Morrigan speaks to me as an ancient story of goddess wisdom that can help us to find the courage needed to pick up our swords & rage against the unconscious beliefs that we might have found ourselves believing in, such as how we 'should' be or behave in this outer world we live in.
The Morrigan can inspire us to take up the battle within & to rally around other women who may feel that as they age, they are somehow becoming slowly invisible & undervalued. You might say that in the war of ageing, we could all use a little kick-arse Morrigan energy to be victorious in our own personal battles but how do we also support each other when we are feeling so disconnected from ourselves? If we can manage to shape shift our way through the inner worlds that haunt us, we may find the courage to show up as our true selves again one day. The self that wraps her arms around herself & her community & predicts that we will all be victorious together.
I'm guessing that if I'm asking questions of myself, still laughing with my girlfriends at the world around us & if I'm still guiding my daughter to be true to herself, then I'm doing something right in the war.
But hey, if winning a full war today sounds like that's all a bit too much, maybe try conquering a smaller battle like having gorgeous smelling skin & try the new Morrigan soap today.
Need to know there’s no nasties in your soap? Great, because so do we.
